New England Patriots Off Season Roster 2010 – Where are they now?

Every pre-season an NFL team expands the roster to 90 players. Some of these guys stay on the roster for years, some months and some days (looking at you Ross Ventrone). But what happens to the guys that sign for your team and are never heard from again? Or, more importantly you see the guy your team cut in training camp being a solid starter at another team. The 2010 New England Patriots are going to be the first team in a soon to come series of “Off Season Roster – Where are they now?”

Name Age Position College Draft Current Team Player Story
Brown, Sergio 27 SF Notre Dame UD Jaguars Brown’s story is an interesting one. Undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2010, he,received quite a lot of ridicule in New England for being part of the poor defensive backfield in 2010 and 2011. Brown was cut after the 2011 season where he signed for the Colts and, where he played a significant role in their defence. He famously got “thrown out the, club” by Rob Gronkowski on an over-enthusiastic block by the tight-end. Brown resumed the rivalry, with Gronkowski again this season playing opposite him in the Game week 3 as a starting Jaguars safety.
Bussey, George 30 T Louisville 5th FA A 5th rounder in 2010, Bussey joined a good opportunity in an unspectacular group of Patriots offensive lineman. As a duel Guard and Tackle it was hoped that Bussey would be able to essentially fill 2 roster spots. Unfortunately after 2 seasons on IR Bussey was cut where he was later signed by the Jaguars. The Kentucky native then went on to have 5 relatively successful years in the Arena league as part of the Tampa Bay Storm and San Jose SaberCats even recording 5 catches for 56 yards.
Clayton, Thomas 31 RB Kansas,State 6th FA A 6th round pick by the 49ers in 2007, Clayton bounced between the Patriots and Browns active and practice squads before finishing his career in 2012 with the Cardinals. He finished his career with 29yds rushing.
Farnham, Buddy 28 WR Brown UD FA Undrafted out of Brown in 2010, Farnham was an off-season “camp body” for 2010 and 2011. After the Patriots he signed for the Orlando Predators and later the Pittsburgh Power as a practice squad member in the Arena League. Farnham now works as the Tewksbury High School, MA Lacrosse Coach.
Grady, Adrian 29 DT Louisville UD FA Grady, a career practice squad member, twice of the Patriots, spent a full season and an off-season on the team in 2009. After his 2nd stint with the Patriots Grady signed for the Hartford Colonials in the UFL for the 2010 season.
Ingram, Jake 30 LS Hawaii 6th FA The last Long Snapper to be drafted by the Patriots before current starter Joe,Cardona, Ingram only spent 2 seasons with the Patriots before being released in 2010. He subsequently played for the Saints, Titans, and Jaguars before spending a season with the Las Vegas Locomotives.
Johnson, Terrance 29 CB California UD LA Kiss Johnson is one of the few players that were cut from the Patriots practice squad but remains in football, albeit in the Arena League. Johnson moved onto the Colts after final cut downs and later played for the Falcons. After a full year out of football he signed for the LA Kiss where he recorded 17 tackles.
Larsen, Ted 28 G NC State 6th Cardinals In hindsight a surprising cut in 2010, given the instability since Mankins’ departure on the interior of the offensive line, one would think Larsen would be an active member of the Patriots roster. At the time however, the roster comprised of Neal, Koppen, Wendell ,Mankins and Connolly, which made Larsen surplus to requirements. After a successful spell at both Guard and Centre in Tampa Bay, Larsen became the starting Left Guard for the Arizona Cardinals for the 2015 season.
LeVoir, Mark 33 T Notre Dame UD FA Undrafted out of Notre Dame the converted Tight End signed for the Bears in 2006 before signing for the Patriots in 2008 where for a large portion of his time there he was the 3rd tackle. LeVoir was released in 2011 before ending his career in St. Louis after a brief stop at the Ravens. LeVoir is now working in IT in Boston
Lockett, Bret 29 SF UCLA UD FA Undrafted out of UCLA signed initially by the Browns, Lockett was claimed off waivers by the Patriots in 2009. Lockett was, placed on IR in December of the same year after recording 7 tackles. He later signed for the Jets but was, released in final cut downs. Lockett has now turned to a career in luxury real estate and has also done some modelling for PETA’s anti-fur campaign.
McGowan, Brandon 32 SF Maine UD FA McGowan had a spectacular college career coming out of Maine with stats that included 25 ints and 15 fumbles forced and recovered. Despite going undrafted to the Bears he eventually became their starter before being released a year later where he signed for the Pats.
McKenzie, Tyrone 29 LB South Florida 3rd FA After suffering an ACL injury in preseason in his first season and being placed on IR, he was waived and signed to the practice squad in 2010. Rather disappointingly for such a high pick, he was cut from the practice squad a year and a half after being drafted. He was then signed by the Bucs where he spent time on the active roster for 2 seasons later signing for the Vikings. He recorded a total of 17 career tackles which was a scant return for a player drafted 97th overall. In a career unfortunately blighted by injury McKenzie is now working as a Graduate Assistant at Colorado.
Murrell, Marques 30 LB Appalachian State UD FA The Jets signed Murrell off the Eagles practice squad in 2007 after he went undrafted. The following season he spent the whole season on the active roster. He was released after the Jets allowed his contract to run down and signed for the Patriots shortly after. Murrell spent time on and off the active roster over the next 2 seasons for the Pats before signing for the Virginia Destroyers in the UFL. His final competitive football came in the CFL with the Montreal Allouettes. He finished his NFL career with 22 tackles and 2 forced fumbles. Murrell was also a UFL Champion in 2011 with the Destroyers. He is now the owner of his own Motorsport company in Concord, NC.
Myers, Rob 29 TE Utah State UD FA An undrafted free agent for the Jets who led all College TE’s nationally with 15.2 yards per catch in 2007. Myers bounced around the Bills, Colts and Redskins practice squads after being a part of the Patriots for 2 seasons. His only game came 2 years into his career for the Redskins. It turned out to be his only piece of NFL action where Myers was waived early in camp the following season.
Ohrnberger, Rich 29 G Penn State 4th FA Ohrnberger was a 4th round pick out of Penn State in 2009. After operating as a backup and practice squad member he was cut before signing with the Cardinals. Ohrnberger got most of his playing time in the last two seasons with the Chargers becoming a starter after stalwart Nick Hardwick went on IR. Ohrnberger, appears to be enjoying life as a free agent according to his twitter feed @ohrnberger
Price, Taylor 27 WR Ohio 3rd FA A disappointing 3rd round pick in 2010, Price was stashed on the active roster as a healthy scratch for most of his rookie season. He was cut after only 2 seasons with the Pats after playing in only 3 games. From there Price spent the next 3 seasons on IR for the Jaguars and Seahawks before being cut just after last Christmas. In 5 years he recorded 5 catches for 80yds, more than half of it coming in his first game against the Dolphins in his rookie season.
Richard, Darryl 29 DT Georgia Tech 7th FA A 7th round pick in 2009, Richard stayed on the Pats practice squad for 3 seasons. Impressed with his practice performances Richard and his then practice squad teammate Ryan Wendell received a pay rise to that of an active roster member.
Robinson, Zac 29 QB Oklahoma State 7th FA A 7th Round pick by the Patriots in 2010, Robinson spent time on the Seahawks, Lions and Bengals practice squad before being cut by Cincinnati in 2013. After four seasons in the league he failed to take a competitive snap. He is now working as a Quarterback Consultant.
Tate, Brandon 28 WR/KR North Carolina 3rd Bengals A 3rd rounder in 2009, Tate didn’t make much of an impact his rookie season going on IR in November. 2010 marked a decent sophomore season for Tate catching 24 passes for 432yds and 2 TD’s and an extra 2 TD on kick returns where he started to make a name for himself. Tate was released in the final round of cuts in 2011 and was claimed off waivers by the Bengals. Tate is mostly regarded in a similar role to former team mate Matthew Slater as a special teams specialist but brings a bit more on offense with a career 9 TDs and 897 receiving yards. At the time of writing Tate made an impressive diving catch against the Chiefs in week 4.
Taylor, Chris 31 RB Indiana UD FA Originally drafted by the Texans in 2006, Taylor spent most of 2006 on the active roster before signing for the Pats in 2009 where he spent his first season on IR before being cut in 2010 in the final cut downs. After New England, he signed for the Saints, where he bounced on and off the 53-man roster before being released in 2011. He finished his career with 160 yards rushing and a TD. Taylor moved into the media and is currently working for Yahoo Sports Radio.
Ventrone, Ross 29 SF Vilanova UD Steelers Ventrone a special teams specialist has a special place in the hearts of those who follow every transaction at the bottom of the roster. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2010 he spent most of his first year on the practice squad. In 2011 and 2012 he was amazingly signed or cut a total of 21 & 29 times by the Pats. He was later signed by the Steelers and was promoted to the active roster in 2014. His older brother Ray is the assistant special teams coach for the Patriots.
Welch, Thomas 28 T Vanderbilt 7th Saints A 7th round pick by the Patriots, Welch was cut in final roster trim down and was offered a spot on the practice squad, which he declined to sign for the Vikings. Welch returned to the Pats the following season on the practice squad. He has moved teams frequently since then, appearing for the Rams, Eagles, Bills and now currently the Saints.
Weston, Kade 28 DT Georgia 7th FA Weston’s story is further proof that being a draft pick is no guarantee of making the roster. The 7th rounder drafted in 2010 stayed with the Patriots for 2 seasons before signing for the Colts and then the Steelers. Weston got placed on IR in 2010 before being cut after recovering from his injury.
Williams, Thomas 30 LB USC 5th FA Drafted in the 5th round by the Jaguars, Williams spent nearly a year on the Patriots roster after being signed from the Seahawks. Released during final cuts in 2010 he moved from Buffalo to Carolina and finally to Tampa Bay. Williams, suffered a neck injury in 2011, which eventually caused him to retire in 2012.,Williams now works as a motivational speaker.
